The Public Relations and Marketing manager provides local and national news media organizations with information to communicate to the traveling public. All media inquiries should be directed to:

For access to public areas of GNV, members of the media:
• Should notify the Public Relations Manager of plans to interview, photograph or film on airport property. If the Public Relations Manager is unavailable, GNV administrative staff may direct you to the appropriate person for clearance.
• Are welcome in public areas, including the main lobby, baggage claim, parking lots and roadways
• Must identify themselves to anyone they interview, photograph or film
• Must not impede passenger traffic or airport operations
• Must display press credentials
• Must have permission to film areas leased by airlines and other airport tenants, including ticket counters, stores, private offices, and/or restaurants
• May not film or photograph the equipment and/or personnel at the security checkpoint.

Media members seeking access to secure areas of the airport need permission from airport administration as well as a government-badged escort. Media members must remain with the escort at all times.

Requests for access are accommodated to the extent manpower, operational considerations and safety permit. In the event of an emergency or other situation requiring the full attention of Authority staff, a prearranged escort may be cancelled or media may be asked to leave a secure area.

For everyone's safety, parking of live trucks and extension of masts must be coordinated with Airport Operations in advance due to potential airspace violations.

On the 14th of February 2012, President Obama signed the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 into law. The staff of Gainesville Regional Airport is not authorized to comment on security procedures or personnel on behalf of the Transportation Security Administration. Media must contact TSA Media Relations.

In the event that enhanced security procedures are mandated by either the FAA or TSA, there may be certain additional restrictions on media access.

In the event of an emergency, accident response is a joint operation among airport, fire rescue, police and other local emergency management officials.

The primary responsibilities of GNV staff members are safe and orderly airport operations.

Media gathering locations may be established. Contact the Public Relations Manager via cell phone for instructions. Media requests will be handled as quickly as possible given the safety and security of the situation.

City/County Public Affairs personnel will issue a media advisory through the press confirming where the media should respond along with other pertinent information related to the accident.

A Joint Information Center (JIC) may be activated to handle media inquiries, visitor/public information and rumor control. Media briefings may be scheduled and announced for specified briefing areas.

Note: The cause of an aircraft incident is released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the airline involved after an investigation has been conducted. Until then, no agency will speculate about the cause of the incident.
